ANTIDOTE TO ALLERGIES
ALLERGIES ARE A GROWING problem for millions of people, and the topic deserves specific attention and prayer. According to one report, Americans spend more than $4.5 billion on yearly medical care for so-called seasonal allergies. At the same time food allergies, termed incurable, were once of little concern to the medical community; now on the rise, they affect roughly 11 million, many of them children. A recent report in Newsweek indicated that doctors expect this increase to continue ("Kids and the growing food allergy threat," November 5, 2007).
Much of today's discussion centers on controlling allergy symptoms. But in many cases, even the simple relief people seek comes with tradeoffs. For example, one of the chief side effects of many popular seasonal allergy medications is drowsiness, which itself results in millions of lost workdays and a greater risk of on-the-job accidents.
But there's an entirely different approach to finding solutions. The Science of Christ offers more than just the management of symptoms or settling for somewhat less disturbing side effects. Understanding their spiritual, God-given nature, people can prove more and more that they are not victims of their environment, and do not have to suffer because of reactions to what they breathe or eat or touch. Scientific prayer can and will reveal this, as it has for many allergy sufferers who have found full freedom by relying on God's power. Some have shared their healings over the years in this magazine.
