Honor your integrity

You're standing in line to pay for a carton of ice cream at the grocery store. The woman in front of you fumbles with her purse and a bill from her wallet floats to the floor. What do you do? Most likely, the answer to this question is pretty clear.

But how about living your whole life from the standpoint not just of honesty, but of spiritual integrity? Not all decisions we make might be as obvious as the moneyin-the-checkout-line scenario. Shades of gray appear to pepper the moral landscape. What seems like a good decision for one person, may not be for another. There are winners and losers, haves and have-nots, givers and takers. In terms of being perfect on a human level, it can be tricky to consistently hit the mark.

But there is a certitude in looking to God to inform our views of integrity. In the Sentinel's lead article this week, Michelle Nanouche points out that this important quality doesn't involve "rigid adherence to a human code. In its spiritual meaning, integrity is the state of being complete, whole, and perfect. . . . it's a spiritual attribute of God, a soulful quality that's unlimited and universally endowed."
