LETTERS

Though I always pray for the protection of those affected by extreme weather conditions, I was particularly concerned for those in the path of Hurricane lke, as I'd lived in the Houston area for most of 30 years and have many friends there.

Praying earnestly for all concerned, and specifically with one dear friend, we affirmed God's ever-presence and power, knowing that it is truly God "who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment?" (Prov. 30:4).

After the storm, my friend reported that there was minimum damage to her home, though there were large tree limbs in the yard. She was one of the few on her street who had electricity. We agreed that her light was shining for all to see. Her neighbors came to her home to charge cellphone batteries, get ice, store food in her refrigerator and freezer, and do laundry. Gratitude has been expressed that the storm brought out the best in everyone.
