PAINFUL LUMP DISAPPEARS

One day several summers ago, while I was wearing shorts, my husband noticed a large lump on the side of my knee. I was surprised to look down and find this lump, but since at the time it didn't hurt, I ignored it. Not long afterwards, however, this area on my leg began to cause me discomfort. When bending my knee became difficult, I decided it was time to stop ignoring the situation and do something about it.

My solution was prayer. I started by seeing myself as God sees me. Since the first chapter of Genesis gives the assurance that we are His image and likeness, I knew God saw me only as His perfect child, the reflection of His own perfection. But I had to hold to that assurance and not let anything try to convince me that I was less than spiritually complete. I affirmed that I could not be vulnerable to attack by disease or pain, since in God's infinitude, only good is real.

Mary Baker Eddy wrote on page 246 of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "Man is not a pendulum, swinging between evil and good, joy and sorrow, sickness and health, life and death." Therefore, I could not be free one day and struggle the next. God is constant, ever the same. As His reflection, I knew God never saw a change in the wholeness of what He had made, so I would not allow myself to believe such a change was even a possiblity.
