FREED FROM BACK PAIN

In November 2005, I began to experience back pain that prevented me from moving freely. I've relied on Christian Science for my well-being throughout my life and have experienced many healings, so I knew I could rely on prayer as an effective form of treatment.

At the time, I'd recently completed a course on spiritual healing known as Christian Science Primary class instruction, so I felt that I could pray on my own. But after a week of not seeing any improvement in my condition, I recalled this passage from Science and Health: "If students do not readily heal themselves, they should early call an experienced Christian Scientist to aid them. If they are unwilling to do this for themselves, they need only to know that error cannot produce this unnatural reluctance" (p. 420). I recognized this statement as one that I should act on. I then called a Christian Science practitioner. This was the beginning of a transformation in my thought.

As soon as I spoke to the practitioner, she agreed to pray with me. I told her about my reluctance to call for help. She reassured me that it was all right to ask for another's help and that I had a right to move with freedom and agility because that was how God had made me. She asked that I examine my thoughts and accept only thoughts that were pure and from God.
