THROUGH A SPIRITUAL LENS

THE SEA

I love the sea. I've loved it since reading about it in Bible stories as a child in Sunday School. Sometimes I would go home and illustrate those stories, always coloring the sea simply blue.

Now, as a photographer, I see more of the richness and variety of the sea's colors—green, grey, turquoise, silver, cyan, pink, yellow, and, of course, blue.

These colors stand out in these three photos I took in various parts of Britain. They depict the sea as the calmest waters imaginable, which is how I like it most. For me, the qualities these images represent include peace, harmony, and gentleness.

The sea's constantly changing patterns are thought-provoking. I notice something new every minute. My concept of infinity deepens as I stand on the shore and watch the sea stretch into the far, far distance. And I love to lie at the water's edge, enjoying the ocean as it wraps itself around me in much the way that God wraps Himself around us all.
