IN SILENCE feeling the presence and power of God

In response to the April 16 shootings at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Sentinel Radio aired a special program. Sentinel Radio host RUSS GERBER spoke with several guests, including Christian Science practitioners JEREMY CARPER, from Fredricksburg, Virginia, and BRUCE FITZWATER, from Portland, Oregon.

Russ Gerber: "Too terrible for words" is not only the headline in an editorial that appeared in The Los Angeles Times following the tragic shooting at Virginia Tech, it's also a sentiment many people have felt in the aftermath of that tragedy. The editorial acknowledges the horrible chain of events of that morning and the conclusions people have been drawing since it occurred. "But," it adds, "we should remember there are times when silence is the best response." Which raises the question, What happens—and what can happen—in silent moments, especially when we're listening with the deepest longing for answers?

I asked Jeremy Carper about those first moments.
