THROUGH A SPIRITUAL LENS

SPIRITUALLY ENRICHING PLACES

I took this photograph last summer after a friend and I had spent three incredible days on Kalymnos, in Greece. We were hurrying to catch an early ferry to depart the island, when I looked back across the harbor and saw this view.

As a phtographer, I'm always on the lookout for that special early-morning light that sets everything aglow in orangy-yellow hues. The town shimmered in the reflection on the harbor water. I stopped in my tracks and retrieved my camera from my bag. I had to capture this image not just in my mind's eye, but in a tangible way.

The shining water in many ways exemplified the beauty of the places we'd explored during our three weeks in Greece. Our time on Kalymnos, which we hadn't planned to visit, turned out to be one of the best part of the trip. The residents were among the most welcoming and beautiful people we'd ever met. They reminded us just how much love there is in the world, and how many unexpected places there are where one can share this love with other members of God's family.
