LOVE IS FOR HEALING

About five years ago, as I was commuting to my downtown London office, my arm began to ache. Since I often carry a heavy briefcase with that arm, I wasn't too alarmed. But soon the pain persisted to the point where I could hardly move my arm at all. Then, one morning I discovered a lump on one of my breasts. To say that I panicked is an understatement. My vivid imagination went into overdrive, and my thoughts were flooded with disturbing images of illness.

Despite this intense fear, seeking medical help wasn't an option I considered. I'd experienced so many physical healings throughout my years of practicing Christian Science that I was confident in turning wholeheartedly to prayer, in this situation, too. It also gave me great comfort to think about the many Christian Scientists all over the world who were daily practicing this Science and finding healing.

Christian Science explains the truth Christ Jesus taught and practiced, and I'd found that when this truth is rightly understood and applied, it heals permanently. So, I expected a permanent healing. I'd also found that spiritual healing involves a transformation in thought, in which healing isn't just evidenced physically, but mentally as well. So I was open to "bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ," as the Bible teaches (II Cor. 10:5).
