Another call to prayer
In 2004 the Sentinel made a plea for humanitarian caring based on prayer for the Darfur region of western Sudan. Many thousands of civilians had been killed by Sudanese government troops and by Arab militias known as the Janjaweed. Millions of people had been driven from their homes and left starving in camps and settlements. We outlined some approaches to prayer and included these lines from someone who was raised in Africa:
With tears encrusted within the dirt of my hollowed cheeks,
I cup my trembling hands and lift my gaze up to You,
And say my quiet prayer for my beloved country,
And for all the countries, for all the countries.
