How a veteran journalist found healing solutions to newsroom pressures and conflicts during TV new's 'Golden Age'

WHEN I WORKED at the New York headquarters of CBS News, as a radio and television news writer, my job was challenging and exciting. But there were definite downsides. At one point, I wanted prayerful help for some frustrating situations in our newsroom, so I went to the office of a Christian Science practitioner.

The practitioner sat there quietly smiling, listening to my woes. And then he asked me, "Do you love your work?" I thought, What a strange question!

My subsequent conversations with this practitioner showed that he had been listening to my complaints all along, while also silently helping me through prayer. He was knowing that I was not actually a mortal living under constant pressure, but a spiritual being, made in God's image. I needed to learn that spiritual love and my workplace were not mutually exclusive.
