A RENEWED SENSE THAT HEALING WAS INEVITABLE

A few years ago, I began having trouble with warts that appeared on my right hand. I knew I could turn to the truths of Christian Science for healing of this condition—and I did. But although I prayed on and off for a number of months, and sincerely addressed everything I was inspired to pray about, there was no evidence of physical healing.

On a couple of occasions when I felt particularly depressed at my apparent lack of progress, I asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner in overcoming discouragement. Both times my spiritual joy and resolve were restored, and I began to see that I was working not so much for a physical healing as for a better understanding of the true nature of God and man.

Still, the growths on my hand began to increase in size and number. They seemed to be taking root in other areas of my body as well. My dear wife had often expressed concern. Each time such a conversation came up, I would return to prayer. One thing that I was grateful for was that, although the condition on my hand was obvious, only one or two students ever commented on it at the school where I teach.
