HOW I PRAYED when my town was evacuated
There's something we can do about summer safety threats.
October 28, 2003, began as a predictable day for my family: school-work, errands, a Girl Scout meeting. Although a wildfire had been burning in the area for several days, it had posed no serious threat to our Southern California mountain community.
Then suddenly everything changed. Mid-morning we got news of a voluntary evacuation. Within an hour, it was mandatory. The fire was on its way.
