DISASTER IS NOT IN GOD'S PLAN

I live in an area of Florida prone to hurricanes and have seen their destructive forces. Each year as the June-October hurricane season approaches, I've prayed to feel and be safe, and I have experienced wonderful instances of protection.

This year, however, I've asked myself, "Do hurricanes have to happen?" Meteorologists, and most people for that matter, would say yes. But as I've endeavored to think about it from a spiritually scientific perspective, rather than accepting what others predict, I'm seeing more clearly that destruction is not the result of God's law of Love. Therefore, damaging hurricanes have no divine origin, place, or power.

What's my authority for this radical statement? The Bible and Mary Baker Eddy's Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. These books make known God's infinite law of good—the law of cause and effect. In the Old Testament book of Daniel, we read about three Hebrew men thrown into a furnace for defying an edict designed to prevent their worship of God. They came out unscathed; neither the king's unjust law nor the physical law that fire destroys and harms had an effect on them. Seeking God's protection, they were safe.
