I KNEW HEALING WAS POSSIBLE

I'm especially grateful for a healing I had last year. Over a period of several months, I'd been having difficulty walking, because of a weak and painful ankle. At first I tried not to limp, my ankle appeared intense. Over time, my ankle appeared misshapen, and the discomfort only increased.

Turning to God for healing, I prayed with many passages from the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. The instruction to "stand porter at the door of thought" (p. 392) was particularly helpful. I made a diligent effort to monitor the quality of thoughts coming to me, to welcome in healing thoughts, and to stay centered on what was spiritually true—that as the image of God, who is perfect, my perfection couldn't waver. I knew nothing could be out of place in His completely good universe. God alone was the source of my thoughts, and this infinite, divine reservoir included only what was pure, painless, harmless, and beautiful. At the same time, I saw the need of rejecting fearful thoughts, and not assigning reality to what was not from God—pain, restricted movement, or protracted recovery. These, I knew, were no part of God's completely loving will for His children.

I was encouraged by the spiritual insights I was gaining, but the condition still had not improved. Finally, my husband insisted that I seek the advice of a podiatrist. My husband regularly attends Christian Science services with me, though he is not a Christian Scientist. Out of regard for his loving concern, I followed through on his request.
