ANYONE CAN BE A HEALER

A LIFE PREPARED FOR THE HEALING PRACTICE

DURING A TIME of deep spiritual awakening in college, I discovered I wanted to devote my life to the practice of Christian Science healing. The amazing release from problems I experienced when Christian Science practitioners prayed for me, and the joy I felt as I effectively prayed for others, convinced me that I, too, wanted to be a healer.

Although I knew clearly my life's goal, it took many years of spiritual growth to ready me for advertising as a public practitioner. I needed to overcome shyness, fearfulness, and low self-esteem, and trust that God loved me and was the source of my ability to help others.

One of my spiritual quests in college was to understand the nature of divine Love, the foundation of spiritual healing. I looked to Jesus' example and sought to understand the basis of his loving perspective. In Science and Health, I discovered the passage: "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick" (pp. 476—477).
