Christian Science gave me a 'new life'

'In order to apprehend more, we must put into practice what we already know" (Science and Health, p. 323). This statement by Mary Baker Eddy encouraged me to put into practice what I had studied about scientific prayer, in order to heal some physical ailments.

On one occasion I was suffering so severely from hemorrhoids that I could not go to work. I had to see a doctor for a medical certificate that would justify my absence from my job. He told me my condition was cause for concern and I would probably have to have surgery.

I decided to rely completely on God, and asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner, who comforted me with firm and loving words during this very difficult time. He asked me if anything else was bothering me, and I told him "no." But, as we spoke, he asked me directly, "Are you praying for someone who asked you for help? And are you afraid they might not be healed?" That's exactly what was happening! He assured me that God cares for each of His children with a lot of love, and that I shouldn't feel personally responsible in praying for my friend's health. I was very surprised, because at no time had I told the practitioner that I was praying for someone else. As a result, I put my friend in God's hands, and I myself was completely healed in a few days. For this, I was very grateful.
