R. Ryder Stevens is a retired Army chaplain, and a Christian Science practitioner, living in Auburn, Washington. This is a prayer he wrote for families of soldiers on active duty:
Dear God, the Father-Mother of all creation,
We pray to see Your omnipotent law settle this dispute that has risen to anger, then conflicts. Let it be settled and done through divine justice, bringing peace to all on both sides sooner than expected, blessing all involved. Give our loved ones in harm's way the armor of Your angel-thoughts to lead them, guide them, keep them safe and wise in doing their duty. Help us, when we are afraid, to turn wholeheartedly to You for Your comfort through the Holy Spirit and to not heed mindless speculation or rumor or gossip, but keep us attuned to Your love. We pray to see Your will be done and all mankind blessed, for all are Your children. Your law, Your grace, Your peace governs us all. We are grateful for Your love You have shown us through the life of Jesus the Christ, who has served as a window to Your loving nature and love for us all.
