Security found in God
Written for Le Héraut de la Christian Science
In 1992, riots broke out in our city. During these riots I turned to God.
I acknowledged that I was under God's divine government and therefore I actually resided, along with all His children, in "the secret place of the most High" (Ps. 91:1). The ransacking of homes, the killings, the violence, did not come from God. Although we cannot see God's presence with our eyes, His presence fills all space. Because of this, I concluded, we were protected by Him. Three days later the violence ceased and calm returned. Our neighborhood was not touched.
Because of the looting, we did not receive our salaries. I prayed to see that God was my employer. It is He who remunerates us. I found this passage in the Bible: "Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work" (Ex. 20:9). I understood that this commandment urges us to be faithful, punctual, precise, to love our work and to see the unfolding of divine qualities and abilities in our lives. Nothing could stop God's dispensations to us.
