Out-of-the-chair prayer for the world's children
I love to pray for children. Prayer inspires the view that God, who is divine Love, is mothering each of Her children every moment. Prayer calms a parent's fears. And prayer helps, protects, and heals children.
I'm thoroughly convinced that praying for children is worthwhile and effective, and that it does make a difference. Sometimes your prayer is a "chair prayer" (or an on-your-knees prayer). But there are times when your prayers will bring you to your feet, ready to take action.
Our family's prayers on behalf of children have sometimes impelled us to action. Some years ago we decided to sponsor a move into the United States of a Cambodian family living in a refugee camp in Thailand. During the months it took to process the paperwork with a private immigration aid service in New York, we prepared our home and our hearts for the arrival of our soon-to-be houseguests. However, we received a call one day telling us that the family was being detained and couldn't be admitted into the States because their young son had tuberculosis.
