E-mail from a Soldier in Iraq

Alen Forney is currently in Iraq, serving with the United States Military Police. The following e-mail message from him made its way to a reader of the Sentinel. It got her attention and led her to consider her own expectations for quelling the escalating violence in that country. With Alen's permission, we're sharing his e-mail here as a behind-the-scenes example of why there are reasons to hope for peace and understanding in the world.

This is attempt #3 at writing this e-mail. The first two times I finished all but the closing and had the computer shut down on me ... they were truly great letters (you'll have to trust me on this one, some of my best writing) :-), and I fear this one will just be a stumbling attempt at coherence.

Anyway, moving on ... the point of this letter is to inform all of you that I now have Internet access again and am able to receive e-mails once more (my mailbox was jammed with letters ... mostly junk-mail though) and to also let you know that I am doing Ok; things have been a little scary around here the past few weeks, but I have managed to stay out of too much trouble.
