Connecting for stability

Not all paths through life are equally successful. Half of all marriages end in divorce, prison populations overflow, and a growing number of programs exist to help people overcome substance abuse and compulsive behavior. Happiness defined materially can be illusive at best, and at worst can lead to an ocean of tears.

At the same time, an enlightened, spiritual approach to life can be strengthening and rewarding. Prayer and spiritualization of thought are practical in emergencies, and tend to build stability and increase happiness over time. People who trust their lives to God's wisdom seem to enjoy the lasting happiness and meaning that more and more people are beginning to value.

When I was in my early twenties, I saw the difference between these two approaches to life, and determined to let God guide the first steps of my adulthood. Looking for a job after college, I prayed every day to know whom to see and which leads to pursue. Several weeks of appointments and interviews later, I was offered an entry-level position in the graphic arts field. The company wasn't located at an upscale address and the pay was modest. But beneath surface considerations, it was an awesome opportunity. Their equipment was state-of-the-art, they used the finest materials available, and their processes were highly disciplined. I knew I could learn there and that I'd be able to grow. Furthermore, it was a good match for my skills. And most important, I had the feeling God had connected me to this job.
