At peace—and healed
At a time when people everywhere are reaching out with prayers for peace to a world in turmoil, I am deeply grateful for the realization I've gained, through the study of Christian Science, that peace is a precious gift from God. Peace is always present in our hearts, even if it seems covered over for a time by conflict, sorrow, or illness.
Many wonderful proofs of God's love over the years have taught me this lesson, especially a healing I had last winter. I had begun to experience chest pain, accompanied by bouts of severe coughing and an overall feeling of weakness. I yearned to be free of this condition, to be able to breathe easily and rest quietly. At the time, this seemed like only a distant possibility.
I continued, however, to take care of household chores. I also made a point of calling several friends who I thought might appreciate a cheerful word of encouragement. I sent notes to another friend who was dealing with a difficulty. I felt God was guiding me to do this, and found that I was comforted in the process.
