There's Something In It For You—And Others

The First Church Of Christ, Scientist, was founded in 1879 by Mary Baker Eddy. Some years earlier, through her study of the Bible, she had discovered the universal scientific laws by which Jesus healed. She named this discovery Christian Science. Since that time, The First Church of Christ, Scientist—The Mother Church in Boston—has been the spiritual home to hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world who practice Christian Science.

The Mother Church and its branches are united in furthering the Cause of Christian Science, but separate in structure and in the roles they play in the worldwide Christian Science movement.

Just as a deeply rooted, flourishing tree has many branches, you might think of The Mother Church as the trunk and the branch churches as, well—the branches. Neither the trunk nor the branches can grow or thrive without their nurturing, organically inseparable relationship with the other.
