SALAMAT NAK GADOR SA DIYOS(DEEPEST THANKS TO GOD)
It's never easy to reach remote parts of the Philippines by phone from the United States. One cannot dial villages direct. Connections are noisy, and voices sound faint. You can almost feel the heat and the rain over the telephone lines.
But there was no confusion over the message from Ramon Reandelar when he spoke to us from Calatrava in the province of Romblon. His voice was suddenly loud and clear as he said, "The recipients of Trickle Up grants in our villages are so grateful for the generosity of donors, especially those in the United States, and we thank God for it."
In their program at the St. Michael Parish Community Service Center, superintendent Ramon and five fellow workers are helping 80 families make the most of their grants by teaching them entrepreneurial skills and simple bookkeeping.
