New HOPE for the world's poor
MILLIE LEET STANDS ON THE BALCONY of a hotel on the island of Tenerife in the Canaries, and looks out across the sparkling waters of the Atlantic. We have just visited some of the impoverished parts of the island and have been talking about how, in many areas of the world, you see evidence that the poor are getting poorer and the rich seem to be getting richer.
"How do we reach the poorest of the poor?" I ask.
"By believing in them," she says, "and by recognizing that they all have potential."
