An injury healed and a life renewed
When I was 21, I was on vacation in Jamaica and dived 20 feet off a bridge into what proved to be shallow water. With my head embedded in the sand, I was completely helpness. A friend and some strangers came to my rescue, lifting me up and carrying me to shore.
I could feel myself slipping away, losing consciousness. I was praying for my life. Yet, a few hours earlier I had had no purpose for living and was thoroughly ungrateful for life. As I sat there on the shore, I had to prop my head in my hands since I couldn't otherwise hold my head up or turn it, and I knew there was no time to waste. I was praying like crazy—riveted on getting to the heart of what really needed healing.
I felt God's presence as if He were standing by, waiting for me to ask for help and talk to Him/Her; waiting for me to commune with Spirit, ask for forgiveness, express gratitude, acknowledge God. And I did those things.
