Business trusted to God

Original in Spanish

Many years ago I worked for the first exporter of steel products in Argentina. It was a very large company. At that time I was very young, had an important job with 100 employees in my charge, a large office, and an assistant. I was very proud of all these accomplishments—which I had achieved alone, with the help of no one. I felt I was at the threshold of my career, and looked down on everyone with an air of superiority. In time, I realized my ego was also very large.

When the company underwent a transformation, I didn't like it anymore. It passed into private hands, and employees were being laid off. I was told that I could stay, but that six people in my department would be let go from their jobs. I didn't like that. So I left, feeling sure that I would easily find something better. And this time I'd do it without any bosses; I'd be my own boss.

A former colleague and I used our severance pay to set up a business, which, we believed, would fill our pockets with money. We had a very good location. It was not very big and had no air conditioning, but that didn't because it was the best location.
