"THE WAR AGAINST TERRORISM will not be won as long as people are made desperate by poverty, disease, and squalor," said Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu during an ecumenical service of prayer and reflection in Boston's Episcopal Cathedral Church of St. Paul on February 24.
In his address to more than 800 people, Tutu said that no one should demonize the enemy. "God gives up on no one. Unless we're about to revise the Bible, we've got to love our enemies."
The former chairman of South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission thanked his audience for their prayerful support during the apartheid years, offering to wave a wand over them and make them "instant South Africans."
