Chronic knee trouble healed

One evening, before Christian Science came into my life, I was performing with some college friends in a musical comedy for troops at an Army camp, and I severely twisted my knee. I didn't say much about it at the time, but back at school my friends became worried and insisted that I have it checked. The regular campus doctor wasn't available, so an inexperienced intern quickly taped my leg from hip to ankle.

When I returned to my hometown after semester exams, our family physician was deeply concerned at what had been done—or not done. He said that immediate, proper treatment for the knee would probably have saved years of future treatment.

I returned to campus, limping and still with a bandaged knee. The head physician of the university medical services immediately confined me to the infirmary for three weeks. Among other things, I was put in a traction device to drain fluid from the affected joint. My parents thought perhaps I should drop out of school, but I chose not to.
