An obvious mind/body connection
I woke one morning at 3:30 with pain in my abdomen. It was apparent that quick action was necessary, so I got up and read that week's Bible Lesson (found in the Christian Science Quarterly). The Bible Lesson helps me better understand God, and I have found that as my understanding of God grows, my problems are solved, whether the problem is pain or some other challenge.
The pain intensified, and I found myself speculating as the what the medical diagnosis might be. At 4:30 I called a Christian Science practitioner to pray with me. A little while later, I also woke my wife and asked her to pray, as well.
I sang hymns to myself, reread portions of the Bible Lesson, and prayed to realize that the physical symptoms, no matter how convincing, were not the true, spiritual evidence about me. I returned to bed, still feeling very uncomfortable. My wife relayed messages from the practitioner to me. At one point my wife remembered that I had been anticipating a very unpleasant experience at work the next day. She mentioned that to the practitioner.
