Not on shaky ground
There are few things in life that call for an all-encompassing pledge—a pledge to be kept, regardless of circumstances—in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, a commitment that is not just long term, but that is a lifetime one. Marriage is such a commitment.
Since a lifetime is a rather long period, some are turned off by such a commitment. Others who have not shied away from it, wonder how to cope when under the stress of circumstances.
Today, in many countries, marriage is on shaky ground. Too many times it ends up in divorce, in hurt feelings, or in disillusion—with devastating effect on children. To say nothing of the disastrous effects of domestic abuse and violence.
