A gift from God—that's what I wanted my marriage to be
I always wanted my marriage proposal to happen by the side of the road, in the middle of a snowstorm, with a flat tire. No candlelight or violins. No romantic glow. Just clear-eyed and realistic. I wanted to be sure that it was a practical, long-term, right choice.
Over quite a few years, I went out with a variety of very nice, lovable guys. But, eventually, one of us would admit that this wasn't the real thing, and we'd go separate ways. I refused to entertain the possibility that I might never get married. But the problem was, Where was he?
Then one time I made plans to go skiing with a married friend and a single friend of his. It was not a blind date—just a ski day. We all just happened to be free to go on a Monday.
