Beyond oil, sand, and politics

Breaking down barriers to peace in the Middle East

People are watching the Middle East for various reasons—of course, out of concern for the welfare of those living in this part of the world under difficult conditions. But the region is also a focal point because of concern about oil supplies, and because of interest in the holy places that relate to Jewish, Christian, and Muslim religious beliefs.

The following interview with Rabbi Thomas Louchheim was conducted by Alexis Deacon of the Christian Science Sentinel—Radio Edition. Louchheim is the rabbi for the Congregation Or Chadash in Tucson, Arizona. Together, they explored some of the spiritual issues—and the Scriptures—that are at the heart of the Middle East conflict and that point out possible routes to peace.

In an upcoming interview, a Muslim imam will share perspectives on these issues from the standpoint of the Koran's teachings. Our hope is that interviews such as these will give new insights to readers who care about peace in the Middle East.
