9-1-1. Only three digits. But for people in many communities, dialing these three digits means help is on the way—a police car, an ambulance, a fire truck.
It is fitting, here, to salute the brave men and women who participate in emergency responses. They exemplify caring for our neighbors in a tangible way.
However, these three digits can also evoke anxiety, for they often suggest imminent danger, or possible tragedy. The question remains, "What will the outcome be?" And there's a concern that no matter how quick the response is, it can never be instant.
