Prayer heals painful foot

When I was growing up, my family relied on medical treatment. But once when I had a painful boil on my neck, my mother called a Christian Scientist for spiritual treatment through prayer, and I was healed. Still, I wondered whether I would be strong enough to rely solely on God if I were presented with a significant physical challenge. Of course, I later learned that healing doesn't have anything to do with human strength or willpower, but has everything to do with relying on God's power.

For a number of years, I suffered from infected ingrown toenails in both feet. At one point when the swelling was quite severe, a doctor recommended minor surgery. I consented to the procedure. The surgery was not successful, however, and within a year the condition returned. This time, I called a Christian Science practitioner. He pointed out that this condition wasn't true about God's spiritual creation. I found this thought helpful, and the flare-up subsided.

Later, as I was preparing for a required military physical fitness test, the condition appeared again. I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to run with such painful feet. I also strongly desired to solve this problem through prayer alone.
