Freedom from alcoholism
For five years I drank day and night. One word could describe it: alcoholism, in all of its ugliness. A moment of recognition came to me from reading a passage by Mary Baker Eddy: "Whatever intoxicates a man, stultifies and causes him to degenerate physically and morally" (Miscellaneous Writings, pp. 288–289). I understood that alcohol was completely dominating my life because my morality was basically nonexistent, and I was physically and mentally dying. The desire to drink was literally destroying me.
Having had some understanding of Christian Science, I turned to prayer and study of God's law. I believed that the truths in the Bible and Science and Health could heal me. I didn't know how, but I had faith that they could.
