INTERVIEW

At the standpoint of opportunity

A conversation with English theater director Sue Pomeroy

Sue Pomeroy is the artistic director of Good Company Theatre Productions, founded in 1986 and based in Brighton, England. She works alongside a team of "dedicated professionals," and also finds time to write and produce. Her directing career has included residencies at the Royal National Theatre and at the Berliner Ensemble in Germany, and she has directed many productions of classical and new work for regional theaters throughout England.

We talked with her during one of her visits to Boston, beginning with a discussion of some of the qualities that are required of a good theater director.

"To borrow a phrase from the Apostle Paul," said Ms. Pomeroy, "we could say that a good director has to be 'all things to all men,' and yet maintain a vision of the whole and a connection with the inspiration at the heart of the project [see I Cor. 9:22].
