SEVEN THOUSAND MILES' WORTH OF CHANGE

Several years ago I moved from the United States to Australia to begin married life. I encountered changes I wasn't entirely prepared for. Customs were different, accents seemed strange, and I had to learn to drive on the left side of the street. On top of that, I was no longer a career woman; I was now setting up a home and learning how to cook. Everything was new and different.

One day a neighbor leaned over our fence, and in a spirit of love, I'm sure, said she didn't know how I'd be able to cope, living so far from my homeland, family, and friends. I knew what she meant!

But I also knew that I had a spiritual foundation that would help me through this transitional period. I am accustomed to relying on God whenever there are challenges, and this certainly was one of those times. From the Bible and also from Mary Baker Eddy's writings, I had learned that God gives each of us the ability to face change fearlessly, intelligently, and joyfully. Mary Baker Eddy talks about living "in an age of Love's divine adventure to be All-in-all" (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 158).
