Praying for others restores full mobility
About two years ago, I was stricken with pain and lameness in my left leg while teaching several courses at a community college. I continued my teaching and was able to stand up for short periods. My wife was praying for me, and I'm most grateful for her help. The problem persisted, however, and it was necessary for me to use crutches. On different occasions, I had treatment through prayer from Christian Science practitioners. Each was a great help, as was a friend who also prayed for me at one point.
After six months without a lot of improvement, it came to me that I had to get to know God better. After all, He/She was the ultimate source of all good, of all health.
During my prayers it also came to me that I had to pray for everyone in the world, and for the whole universe. As I was praying, I was startled by Mrs. Eddy's words: "The belief that a material body is man is a false conception of man" (Science and Health, p. 285). It became clear to me that since God is Spirit, His/Her children must in truth be spiritual. All around in God's universe there are only spiritual beings created by God. I am one of those ideas, now and for eternity. I live in God's kingdom and have never been touched by aging or lameness. Accordingly I kept walking, sometimes with crutches, sometimes without. After six months I was healed. One step at a time, with God I walk.
