I PRAYED AND I WASN'T AFRAID ANYMORE

I was so scared. I couldn't believe that there might be a bomb at our school. Dad read the ninety-first Psalm to me and told me to take it with me for the day. There were many precautions that the school took: teachers had to lock their doors, no kids were allowed out of classrooms, and teachers were stationed at different posts to make sure no one did anything unusual. About half of the eighth grade didn't show up for school.

The bomb was supposed to go off at 3:30 p.m. I was in science class. I knew that my mom and dad were praying, but I also wanted to help the situation. Everyone was watching the clock.

I wanted to think about the ninety-first Psalm, but I couldn't remember it. Since I've always loved the twenty-third Psalm, I decided to pray with that instead. The part, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me" (verse 4) came to me and helped me get through the day. It was like I was being shown exactly what I needed to have. I suddenly realized how much that pertained to the situation. I also discovered that "I will fear no evil" could apply to other things.
