Father-Mother God

WHEN I was a baby, I relied totally on my mom and dad for everything. They cared for me, fed me, and clothed me. When I got older and was a student in Sunday School, I learned that I could turn as completely and as confidently to God, the Father and Mother of us all, as I had to my parents when I was little. More and more I found myself turning to God whenever I felt I needed the strength of my Father and the loving tenderness of my Mother. My mom and dad understood this relation to God, too. They encouraged me to trust Him completely, to know that God made me and always loves and cares for me completely.

Once when I was twelve years old, my little brother began to feel quite ill in the middle of the day. He went into the house without telling anyone and got into his bed. We shared the bedroom, and I noticed him lying there when I came into the house to get something. I asked him if he was OK. He said that he was really feeling bad. He didn't want to eat anything, didn't want to get out of bed, and didn't even want to go out and play with his friends.

I had been learning about God as my Father-Mother. I had also learned that praying to God brings answers to any problem, anytime, anywhere. So, while I told my parents about this later in the day, at the time I just turned to God.
