Multiple injuries from car accident healed
Over a year ago I found myself regaining consciousness in my car, which was down the side of an embankment. The car had malfunctioned, lurching forward at high speed in the parking lot, and I had been unable to stop it by braking. (Later the insurance company declared the car a total loss.) Someone came immediately and got me out, and I was able to walk up the embankment. Because of a lifetime of turning to God for healing and of demonstrating the practical truths of Christian Science, I declined the offer of an ambulance ride to the hospital. A neighbor came and took me home. Although my car had hit another car after I lost consciousness when it went over a retaining wall, the woman in the other car wasn't seriously injured, and within a week she went home from the hospital well.
When I arrived home, I immediately called a Christian Science practitioner. I continue to be grateful for her loving, inspiring treatment throughout this trial. She encouraged me to keep my thinking God-centered, to bring every thought into obedience with Christ, and to let go of the belief that matter is the source of life. Science and Health assures us, "Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, and we must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God's unerring direction and thus bring out harmony" (p. 424). I was often reminded that my true work was to know God better and to love Him more.
At first the problem was a sore shoulder that turned all colors and became swollen; I also didn't have full movement of the arm. When the discomfort became aggressive, I would speak the truth out loud until I was convinced that matter was a liar and that I was governed by Spirit, God. Soon no evidence was left of that problem. It became almost laughable when I realized that the belief of injury from an accident just kept trying to get my attention through one problem after another, such as a swollen, colorful nose and a bruised, sore knee. These, too, were quickly healed. For a short time my head hurt unbearably, but this was also healed by holding steadfastly to God as All-in-all. Fear of being in a car was gradually overcome, as I knew that God's law, present always, clears away the debris of mortal beliefs, for they have no divine law to support them.
