Q What is a Christian Science Reading Room?

A A Reading Room is a combination bookstore, library, and study room, where the public has free access to books and periodicals published or sold by The Christian Science Publishing Society, including The Christian Science Monitor, and all of the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, including Science and Health. A Reading Room also maintains a wide selection of Bibles and Bible study books. It is staffed by members of the local Church of Christ Scientist, who can help those interested learn more about the Bible and Christian Science.

Q How do you practice baptism or holy communion?

A Christian Scientists acknowledge and love these traditional Christian sacraments, but they do not practice them with outward symbols or ceremony. Baptism means the daily, ongoing purification of thought and deed. Eucharist is spiritual communication with God, celebrated with silent prayer and Christian living.

Mary Baker Eddy, Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, established the Church of Christ, Scientist, "to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing."
