Trust in God heals hemorrhaging
On my eleventh birthday, my mother suggested that I start the year out right by reading the Bible through. Being an obedient child, I commenced doing so. It took me two years to complete it. Afterward I thought, "That was good; I'm going to do it again." When I had almost completed the second reading, my Sunday School teacher gave an assignment that the pupils read the Bible through. I asked her if she wanted me to do it again, since I had already read it through twice. She replied in the affirmative. So, for the third time I was blessed by this marvelously inspiring exercise of reading the Bible through from Genesis to Revelation. From this reading I gained a deep sense of God's presence and love—my love for Him and His love for me. I had a friend. God was my friend.
From the time I was about eight years old I was bothered by headaches. One day when I was about fourteen, I had a headache while I was reading the Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly. I thought: "I wish Jesus were here. He would heal me. Or Mary Baker Eddy. She would heal me." Then I realized that the Christ is here, and it is the Christ that heals! That was the end of the headaches for about three or four years, until one day at school I noticed a schoolmate with that malady. I thought, "Boy, I'm glad I'm a Christian Scientist so I don't have headaches anymore." That was a selfish thought, and overcoming the consequences of it taught me a valuable lesson: God made man perfect, and that is true about all, not just myself or a favored group. It has been many years now since I last had a headache.
