Job hunting: the answer is at hand

The first place to search for work is with God.

I Was About To graduate from college. I knew exactly what I wanted to do—get a teaching position and be completely on my own. Also, I knew exactly what I did not want to do. I did not want to go back to my hometown to teach. After all, I had lived there all of my life, and returning there sounded like a backward step. Surely there was something new ahead for me.

But, after many months of fruitless job hunting, I finally had to throw in the towel and return to my hometown and family. One blessing I could see was being able to spend more time studying the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. These books had always been my "way finders," since they show us how to turn to God for answers.

The first Bible passage I studied was an old friend of mine that had helped me many times: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths" (Prov. 3:5, 6). Also I found Christ Jesus' words "I do always those things that please him" (John 8:29). As I prayed for guidance, it became my earnest desire to trust God fully and let His will be done. The feeling that I needed to be in a certain location diminished. I desired only to do His will.
