REMEMBER TO SHUT THE DOOR

I had so many things to do: finish work on my daughter's farm records before taking them to the tax preparer, clean up the mess in the kitchen from the previous night's disaster with the wafflemaker, shower, dress, and so forth. I admit that I was not really thinking very good thoughts about anything I had to accomplish that morning. It seemed like the last straw when the buzzer on the washer went off, informing me that the load was done. I quickly put the clothes in the dryer, set the timer, and pushed the start button. Nothing happened. I tried different settings, but still nothing worked. It turns out there was nothing wrong with the dryer—I'd simply forgotten to shut the door.

There was another door I hadn't closed that morning—the door in my consciousness that shuts out unhealthy or impure thoughts.

Here was my opportunity to clear my thoughts—to close the door on anything ungodlike—and open my thought to God's complete control over His creation, including me. The Bible states, "The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me" (Ps. 138:8). Since I knew this to be true, why was I rushing around madly? Because I was relying on human will instead of turning to God for direction.
