Reliance on God restores equilibrium
Ten years ago, just as I was to return to my high-school teaching position, I found myself confined to bed with what appeared to be two major problems. I seemed unable to perform any normal activity, even the simplest of tasks. My head was in constant pain, I was feverish, and I also appeared to have lost my sense of equilibrium.
Although it was four months before I resumed my teaching position, both problems were met. I had treatment from two Christian Science practitioners at different times during this period, and I also prayed with determination myself and persisted in setting aside the belief that a personal "I" was responsible for the completion of whatever activities I undertook. While I was spending most of the day in bed, unable to read or think clearly, I came to the conclusion that if I were to die, I really needed to know God a lot better than I presently did.
The difficulty with my head was met within the first two weeks, as I accepted that God was a loving Father-Mother and would never allow his beloved child to suffer. Man, as God's idea, is given dominion over sin, sickness, and death and is assured of God's tender care daily and hourly. This assurance in Science and Health was also very helpful:"If Spirit or the power of divine Love bear witness to the truth, this is the ultimatum, the scientific way, and the healing is instantaneous" (p. 411). The head inflammation was gone.
