A wake-up call to pray for those in authority
One Morning While waiting in line to mail a package, I received a "wake-up call" to pray for our country and the world. A loud, "Good morning, God bless you, and God bless our President, and God bless America!" resonated throughout the post office. It came from a small, slender woman as she came in the door.
She directed her message to all of us, and for a brief moment I felt as though we were in church rather than in a government facility. Her message was sweet, impartial, and full of humility, despite the loud volume of her voice. Some customers responded with quiet smiles; others stood impassively while the post office employees continued to take care of their requests without missing a beat.
After giving her greeting, she quietly slipped into the long line and softly chatted with those around her. She was regally dressed in a gray cape, which gracefully enfolded her. She wore a white hat, white gloves, and white-trimmed sunglasses that dramatically framed a dark, glowing face. I heard her say that she was a minister at a church in the city.
