TO OUR READERS

In a way, the focus for this week's Sentinel—fearlessness—grew out of our gratitude for the impact of God's law on our lives.

At a planning meeting a member of the staff said that the greatest benefit she'd gained from her understanding of God and her practice of Christian Science was the ability to approach life fearlessly. Not that she never was afraid—that would be too much to claim at this point in her life—but that when faced with fear, she knew how to conquer it, how to keep it from halting her progress. She attributed this to a rock-bottom trust that God is always with us.

Another member of the group told a story, affirming how much he valued his God-given freedom from fear. "Driving to work one morning years ago," he began, "I asked myself what difference my years of effort to grow close to God had made in my life. What proof was there, I wondered, that I'd made any progress? Then, suddenly, I knew the answer: I wasn't afraid of the things that many people find frightening—of losing my health or being insecure. What a difference that makes!"
